The Reflection of Micro Teaching

Shiki and I taught "CARSON, Rachel Louise" as a reading class. I would like to write the reflection of this class.

☆Strong Points

・We had students check new words at first.
⇒We wanted all students to join the class.

・We instructed students specifically as well as we could. For example, before the brainstorming, I said to students, "Please write your images more than Five and within Three minutes."
⇒We tried to have students concentrate this activity.

・We used brainstormig and showed the example.
⇒We wanted students to image and notice connection with human, foods, environment and so on through this activity.

☆Weak Pionts

・I think using photo is more helpful when students do brainstorming.
⇒Some students could not image well. We wanted to use phote, but we could not fine good phote and it is diffcult to get good teaching tool unexpectedly. And I think what tool we use for teaching is very important.

・We didn't use English and have students, either.
⇒Mr.JH advised me to have students use English in brainstorming. I think it is important to think something with English to get English skill.

Micro teaching was good experience for me. Thank you for your cooperation and please comment on our Micro teaching!

Nakki,
I admired your effort to try brainstorming. I thought it was a great idea to show a picture related to the story and ask students to talk about it. I think that I will try something similar. Here are a couple of ways to improve the brainstorming:

1)The point of brainstorming is to help students think of English words that they know that will help them understand the story. So brainstorming should be done in English.

2)To make the brainstorming easier, you can ask the following question: “Please tell me what you see in the picture, please use English”. This will work and help the students think of words related to your topic as long as the picture is related to your topic.

Nakki,
Thank you for your teaching. I enjoyed your class and learned many things from it.
You led the class very well. You had a rich voice and instructed what students do. You were like a real junior high school teacher.
And the brainstorming was an interesting way of pre-reading. But it was a little difficult for students to understand it. They would not know what they do or imagine. This can be improved
by using the way Mr.hall suggested(2).
Anyway you did a good job. And I think it would be a good experience for you. Thank you.

Hello!
I think this story is little difficult to teach, but you taught it in good way. You used "brain storming". It is interesting for students to reflect it. this idea is very nice as pre-reading. We enjoyed doing this activity and could understand this theme.
Weakness point, it took too much time to explain the activity. And you shoud English more in lesson,as you wrote.
Anyway, I enjoyed your English lesson! Thank you for your teaching.

Hi,Nakki! This is Wakame. Thank you for your teaching. I think that brainstorming is good means but it is difficult too. Because when students thought about the words, they think of also the words which have nothing to do with the topic, especially when it is done in Japanese. Your picture was so useful for us to imagine the context. It was really good idea. Thank you! See you tomorrow!

Hello, Nakki☆
I enjoyed your class.
You were a good entertainer like a real teacher!!
You indicated concretely, "Please write your images more than Five and within Three minutes."
You gave students brainstoming using picture, but it was out of lesson's direction.
So you had better use Rachel Louise picture, I thought.
Anyway, you did a good job!!
Thank you for good teaching(ゝ∀・)♪

Hi,Nakki!This is rozen.
I thought brainstorming was very interesting to do in the first time in a lesson as a introduction.
I could found there are many ways of introduction to concentrate on a lesson.

But I thought it was very difficult for you to take our thinking to the topic you want us to get interest.
So,I think you have to research the good way of this method while your practice teaching in this summer vacation.
Thank you for your teaching♪

Hello,BU-CHAN and Nakki.

Brainstorming was good activity for ss to think about article, but I'm sorry that I couldn't understand what you want to do that time.

I have one idea about taking brainstorming. What about using new wards is? I think some student can strike on some practical wards from "danger" or "chemical".

I think the brainstorming in your pre-reading was very interesting. But I couldn't do it well, so it would be better to do it in pairs or groups.

Good job your micro teaching.
You should use more time to practice for students.
Time was really short, so you had to think what you use time.
But, your lesson was intersting.
